The Living House

2-10 Macarthur Place North
2022

“To observe the world through the filter of leaves and branches”

- Stefani Boeri

Situated in the leisurely, garden filled suburb of Carlton, the Living House comprises 2 dwellings, for up to 8 occupants, with a public facing home office space. Laundry, bike storage, and the roof terrace are communal, and lush, vertical vine gardens delineate garden space. Occupant health, leisure, and connection to greenery are the key aspects behind the Living House’s design. Considerations were made for occupant adaptability over several generations of a family, how its spaces can be modified as it's users age and require different levels of accessibility. The Living House is an experiment on how to humanely, and meaningfully intensify urban dwellings in the age of urbanisation.
